i know God exists because

I know God exists because…

Throughout the years many people have come up with arguments for the existence of God… and I don’t think I’m going to come up with anything new in this post.

BUT… maybe I can help you think the issue through from an angle that impacts the health of your family.

Here are a handful of things that directly impact the way your family relates, that I believe show the existence of God:

1. Relationships

Have you given much thought to the complex nature of relationships? Every person is unique, and the interaction between each pair of individuals is equally unique as a result. There is an amazing, interwoven web of interpersonal dynamics that exists between you and your spouse, you and each of your children, you and your parents. That’s one of the reasons relationships can be so hard… every one is different. There’s no cookie-cutter way of going about them. The fact that relational interaction can exist shows me that God Himself exists, as the Creator of them.

2. Emotions

I’m the last person to say that I understand our emotional makeup. The way that our mind and will interact with our emotions is very much a mystery – not to mention the way the physiological components of our being impact the way we feel. But stop to consider it – every human being is capable of experiencing the intangible mixture of happiness, fear, hope, sadness, love, and a million more emotions. Where do they come from? How do they impact our decisions and our beliefs? How are we able to live free of their control or dominated by them? Such a complex and unseen part of who I am puts me in a place of reverent awe as I consider that there must have been a Designer of that part of me.

3. Communication

Human beings are capable of communication on a level unparalleled by any other creature (except God Himself)… and that process is as complex as anything I’ve mentioned to this point. Consider the “cycle” of communication and all the places that something could go wrong…

  • There’s what you intend to communicate.
  • There’s what you think you communicate.
  • Then there’s what you actually communicate.
  • Then there’s what the person who hears your words actually hears.
  • There’s what they think you mean (their interpretation).
  • There’s their response to what they think you mean.
  • There’s your interpretation of their response.
  • And on the cycle goes…

It’s a wonder that we ever communicate accurately at all!

Yet, we do… and the confusing, difficult, but powerful cycle of communication rolls on… and I’m convinced it was created by someone much larger, smarter, and amazing than us. It had to have been.

I know God exists because…

such complex, mysterious, intangible, but REAL dynamics between individuals cannot be an accident. It simply could not be so.

Such complexity, happening in your family daily…

means that you need to understand each of those three areas as well as possible.

That means you need the help of the One who created them.

God understands relationships fully. In fact, His very essence as Trinity IS relational. There is nobody better to help you understand the relationships in your life, and how to go about them in productive, healthy, truly loving ways.

Do you think to ask Him for His help in that area?

God understands emotions entirely. He is the one who connected your body, mind, will, and emotions together in a way that they make your experience what it is.

Do you lean on Him, asking for help as you navigate the confusing and often overpowering realm of emotion?

God understands communication perfectly. Have you ever considered that HE was the first communicator that we know of? He “spoke” the world into existence. He spoke to us through His word. He has spoken to us through His Son, Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2).

In your family, as the communication flows back and forth… do you consider that you should be asking for His help in untangling confusion and enabling comprehension?

I know God exists because He has proven faithful to help me in all three of these areas. Can you say the same?

Tell me your story below…
